Alpha Phiesta: Fall 2006

Alpha Phiesta has quickly become a local favorite around campus. With all the tacos you can eat for only $5, served by the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi, what more could our campus ask for?

Companies around the Milwaukee community donated most of the food items, so the event was of low cost to us. We raised over $2500 this year which all went straight to our foundation that partners with the American Heart Association, since Alpha Phi’s philanthropy is Cardiac Care.

Some say we’ve got best tacos on campus; you can be the judge of that next November!

Make A Difference Day: Fall 2006

The Marquette Greek Community participated in Make A Difference Day this fall. Waking up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday does not seem fun until you realize that you’re have a blast simply raking leaves and cleaning up Roland’s dog poop filled yard.

True sisterhood was at its best on Make A Difference Day while serving others in the Milwaukee community. Our group certainly made a difference in Roland Schafer’s day.

Founders' Day: Fall 2006

When you think of joining a sorority, you usually think of all of the events at college, the philanthropic events, the all Greek events, and duh, the socials. But what happens when you graduate? Is sisterhood for only four years? No, its for life.

As past Director of Alumnae Relations, I thought I had a grasp on what it meant to be an alumnae. However, I did not truly understand the meaning of being an alum until this year’s Founders’ Day Dinner. A group of Marquette Alpha Phi’s went downtown for a night of food and fun and we wound up making friends with some amazing women whom I learned so much from in a matter of hours.

2nd Annual Rockin' Red Dress Gala: Fall 2006

This year we hosted our 2nd Annual Rockin’ Red Dress Gala at the Palms downtown Milwaukee. The event is a silent auction compiled of donated items from companies around the Milwaukee area and sisters.

Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women in America?

Raising Cardiac Care awareness and about $2400 the event was a success filled with good times and good food.

The Alpha Phi House: Fall 2006

Upon leaving home for college, I never would have pictured myself joining a sorority. Ha! Watching movies like “Legally Blonde” where a million girls live in the house and have their hair and nails done to perfection made me sick.

At Marquette, Greek life crept up on me. I became more and more open to the idea of joining a sorority after meeting two Alpha Phi’s my first semester. I have never made a better decision in my life than joining Alpha Phi in January 2004. I now live in the house and love it. These girls in my house are far more than roommates or fellow club members; they are my best friends, my sisters.

I would not trade living in the house for the world. Next year, we plan to move around the block to a house that will hold over double the number of girls that live in now. I cannot even begin to imagine the great memories to be had with my sisters in the upcoming year.

Cardiac Arrest: Spring 2006

Our 1st Annual Cardiac Arrest went off without a hitch. This Jail ‘n’ Bail style event involved the entire Marquette community. Faculty, organization leaders, friends and sisters all came together for one great cause, Cardiac Care, Alpha Phi’s Philanthropy.

The A-Phi.P.D. was very thankful for the beautiful weather too, as it turned out to be the nicest day of spring. This low budget event raised over $2000 for our foundation, which benefits Cardiac Care.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event such a success.

The Spirit of Marquette Award: Spring 2006

The Spirit of Marquette Award is one of the most prestigious awards any student organization on campus can receive. In order to be honored with such, an organization has to be nominated and then chosen as one of the top organizations by a joint student and faculty committee and passed on to Father Andy Thon, who makes the final decision.
Traditionally, between one and three organizations are given this award.

Last spring, Alpha Phi was honored as the first and only social Greek organization on campus to ever receive The Spirit of Marquette Award.
